WASHINGTON — The United States has been urged to develop laser weapons for naval and other operations in the Gulf.
A leading think tank has determined that directed energy weapons would foil Iran’s efforts to dominate the Gulf and threaten the U.S. Navy. The Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments asserted that the U.S. Navy and other services could use laser weapons to strike Iranian fast attack craft in the Strait of Hormuz and the rest of the Gulf.
